Here's a thread to discuss the Israeli football since it has been started.

Israel is ranked 16th in UEFA.

National stadium information

Name : Ramat Gan

Sits : 40,000

Maccabi Tel-Aviv

Definately one of the best teams in Israel, celebrating 100 years this year, winning an Asian cup back then before Israel joined UEFA and the european cups in general. They have 14 championships and won the state cup 16 times in their history. Qualified once to the champions league in 04/05, along with Bayern Munich, Juventus and Ajax. Ofcourse they had no chances, they won once against Ajax (2-1), finished last in the groups stage, and thats about it.

Maccabi Tel-Aviv will be no where in europe next season.

Stadium information

Name : Bloomfield

Sits : 20,000

Average supporters who come to see their games is 18,000 more or less.

Maccabi Haifa

For now the best team in Israel, in their history they have won 10 championships and 5 state cups.

Qualified once to the champions league in 02/03, along with Manchester United, Bayer Leverkusen and Olimpiakos, beaten big Manchester United 3 - 0 and Olimpiakos 3 - 0, and finished third in the groups stage. After that Maccabi Haifa was sent to the UEFA Cup and lost to AEK in 2 horrible games losing 0 - 4 and 1 - 4, but we didn't mind that.

Maccabi Haifa was the first team to qualify to the champions league after 10 years Israel was in the european cups.

After the big year in the champions league, Maccabi Haifa kept failing and had 2 chances to qualify again, against RBK and Malmo but never won in any games in europe.

Stadium information

Name : Kiryat Eliezer

Sits : 14,600

Average supporters who come to see their games is 14,000 more or less.

That stadium is old too so...

Hapoel Tel-Aviv

Hapoel Tel-Aviv won 7 championships and 6 state cups, gone through a big year in UEFA (01/02) after beating Chelsea (2-0) in the second round, Parma (2-1) in quarter and Milan (1-0) in the semi-finals 1/4, but lost to Milan in the second game 2 - 0 and there it ended.

Stadium information

Name : Bloomfield

Sits : 20,000

Average supporters who come to see their games is 12,000 more or less.

Maccabi Petah-Tikva

Another great Israeli team that doesn't really show what they can do.

They have only won 1 state cup. Qualified to the UEFA groups stage in 05/06 and was the first Israeli team to qualify there since the groups were started. Unfortunately, they lost all their games in the group.

Stadium information

Name : The "Orva"

Sits : 4,000

Average supporters who come to see their games is 500.

Yeah they have lots of fans.

Beitar Jerusalem

After Mr. Gaidamek bought the team, they are showing great games and will play in the UEFA Cup next year.

In their history, they have won 4 championships and 5 state cups.

Nothing to say about this team excpet that they are going to be a big team.

Stadium information

Name : Teddy Stadium

Sits : 20,000

Average supporters who come to see their games is 19,000 or less.

They may have most fans, but they are the last 2 years chosen racists against arabs playing in the Israeli preimer league.

Israel in europe for next season:

Beitar Jerusalem in second qualifiers stage in Champions league.

Hapoel Tel-Aviv, Hapoel Kiryat-Shmona and Maccabi Netanya in third stage in the UEFA Cup.

Bnei Sakhnin in the Intertoto. _________________ ~GA

They showed us before the UEFA groups stage that they got skills and how good they are. Since they joined the groups stage they lost 15 games out of 20 in UEFA and Israeli league, they went all the way from the second place under the red line, but they had a great comeback and managed to get to the Intertoto. _________________ ~GA

Yes, if we are talking about Israeli players, then Idan Tal, Michael Zandberg, Tal Ben-Haim and the Israeli star Yossi Benayon. _________________ ~GA

Yaniv Katan was in Westham and they didn't let him play

so he might be coming back to Maccabi Haifa for the qualifiers stage. _________________ ~GA

Thanks for that information, Green Apes! Very interesting. And those pictures make me very curious for groundhopping in Israel, the stadiums seem quite colourful and special.

May I ask, but are there any teams from the eastern side of the country? When I look on the map, most professional teams seem to be concentrated in the areas along the meditarranean coast (Jerusalem-Tel Aviv-Haifa-...). Is there no clubs in the more inland areas of the country (towards the borders with Jordan and Arabia) or in the Eilat/Red Sea area?

I remember the upper stadium very well, as Ireland played there during the World Cup qualifiers. The Irish fans had a lovely time (including a beach party in Tel Aviv along with the Israeli fans -- not a single riot reported, just two supporters clans having fun together!) but the game gave them a serious nightmare as Israel equalised in the last minute. Note though that the equaliser was fully deserved, Israel deserved to win it. I'm not an Ireland fan myself, but I lived in Dublin around that time and watched the game in a pub, I remember the outlook of the stadium very well. _________________ Rosenborg, forever pride of the North!

Why include religion into football? At least what I thought when I saw Beitar Jerusalems new logo. Though, Maccabi Haifas shirts were quite good! |
