How so? Steaua is a team we know we can beat!

We did beat them in August, but in February, when they are in a good run in their domestic league, I think we will get even more problems than last time.

Steaua indeed looks strong.

The match against Halmstad just ended: 3-0 for Steaua. So we are already quailified for UEFA Cup's last 32. But taking into account that Sampdoria Genova and Hertha Berlin ended their match in a draw, Steaua keeps it's first place in the group. A draw in Berlin could get us through from 1st place. In that case there is no way we can meet Rosenborg again.

Not to mention Steaua managed to come back in the local championship, taking first place away from Dinamo after the latter had a 5 point advantage.

If we do not meet in the 3rd round, I am sure we will do in the 4th round! Razz

By the way congratulations with the win over the Swedes! Tommel'n opp!

Because of this, Norway's hope of getting back the 15th place on the country ranking is almost gone. We won't have two clubs in the Champions League qualifyers in neither 2006 or 2007, but hopefully in 2008 again.

Norway has by the way had two clubs in the Champions League qualifyers four times: 1999 (RBK and Molde), 2001 (RBK and Brann Bergen), 2002 (RBK and Lillestrøm) and 2005 (RBK and Vålerenga). Only Molde have so far managed to copy Rosenborg's achievement, when they qualified after beating CSKA Moscow and Mallorca.

Of course, having two Norwegian teams that get to play CL qualificating matches is not that important to us (Rosenborg) since well win the league the next year anyways.

But great accomplishment none the less! See you in the finals!

What? This season's (2005/06) Norwegian performances have influence on the 2007/08 season! In other words: It would have been useful for us if both the champion and the runner up in 2006 had been given places in the CL qualifyers.

What I meant was: while seedingpoints are important, we will get to play a qualification match in 2007 no matter what.

But wouldn't 15 place mean third qualification round instead of second?

But of course, that won't matter. These Irish clubs are just charming anyway...

In fact it is the 16th place that gives 3rd qualifying round. From 15 to 10 you get one club in the 3rd qualifying round and one in the 2nd round.

Kassies - clever guy.

He says that Rosenborg will meet a second-placed team from the UEFA-cup-groups, while Eurosport said that the places in the groups did not matter for the draw. Wonder who is right.

Hope Kassies is right, for if so, Hamburg has a motivation for beating Slavia with the four goals Viking need.

It was the Norwegian fool of a commentator that said so. Take a look of last season's 3rd round draw, and you'll see that Kassies is right!

Yeah, I remember it was that way before. I thought it was Jørn Sundby who said it, and he usually knows what he is talking about. But if it was that other guy with almost equal voice, Svendsen?, I may support your view...

Four of the possible opponents in the 3rd round were settled tonight:

Roma
Levski Sofia
Shakhtar Donetsk
Zenit St. Petersburg

Tomorrow we will know who the other four will be.

NRK text TV said Roma, Levski, Sevilla and Rapid Bucarest. But I didn't check if they had got it right..

Anyway it's big differences between the teams, the draw will be crucial. I hope for an eastern-european team rather than a big-league team. Rapid Bucarest is my dream, if they really are a secondplaced team..

EDIT: now NRK has corrected themselves to what you said, 2mas. Forgive me for ever doubting thou Oh Master...

then i hope for Levski. But Zenit would have been cool, they're out of season too..

"We will not play UEFA competitions later in 2006, so we want to get as many matches under our belts against top opponents in this competition. And hopefully we will play the final on 10 May!" Rosenborg coach Høgmo says.

Even though I think we will be knocked out long before this, I like what I see! Høgmo even gets the headlines at the frontpage at UEFA.com with his statements! Smile

Heerenveen - Steaua Bucharest 1-3

Next round, please. Cool

Yup, great results for you. We preformed horribly, and I doubt we will go through to the next round!

Well, time for an update Razz

Rapid Bucharest - Hertha Berlin 2-0 (agg. 3-0)
Steaua Bucharest - Heerenveen 0-1 (agg. 3-2) (still a Crying or Very sad )

Both teams go through, Rapid will play Hamburg and Steaua will go back to Sevilla after 20 years :p (in 1986, in Sevilla, Steaua won the European Champion's Cup) to face Betis. Wish us luck!

Shame on you, Steaua! I lost some money on you yesterday. Wink

In addition to Steaua, I will have an open eye on Zenit in the next round. Their super-strikers Kerzhakov and Arshavin are just amazing, and may knock out Marseille on their own.

Yes, you're right, we should've won the game... At least for the great crowd (50,000 people) which packed our National Stadium. Still, I hope they learn a lesson out of this (like they did when they lost to RBK) and perform better in the future.
