How many of the foreign people on this board know this??
Also, in everyday speech in your country , do you say "Britain" or "England"
For example: "England is at war with Afghanistan" _________________ Follow Follow |

England - one of the 'Home Countries'. Britain: England+Scotland+Wales. United Kingdom: The three before + Northern Ireland + Isle of Man, Channel Islands etc. _________________ Du och vi, Alfred - du och vi |

Oh, I don't know, it seems pretty common to refer to the whole lot as 'England' here too... _________________ Du och vi, Alfred - du och vi |

Without using google, I think Scandinavia refers to the stretch of Land at the North of Europe including Norway Sweden and Finland, although sometimes Iceland and Denmark are included.
Was there ever a Union between any of these countries like there is in the UK???? _________________ Follow Follow |

To be fair, I think he was quoting Shakespeare at the time when he said "England" _________________ Follow Follow |

Scandinavia includes Denmark, Norway and Sweden. The Nordic countries consists of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden and their associated territories, the Faroe Islands, Greenland and Ã…land. In English, Scandinavia is sometimes used as a synonym for the Nordic countries, but that word may also refer more narrowly to Denmark, Norway and Sweden. |

I say England whenever I am referring to..well England. And Scotland whenever I am referring to Scotland. If I am talking about Britain i usually say Great Britain or just the UK because its short and I am lazy. But most of the time I only mention the country in question itself. |

This is what is sometimes called Fennoscandia. Scandinavia is, as has been said already in this thread, Norway, Sweden and Denmark. _________________ Du och vi, Alfred - du och vi |

It's surprising how many people don't know the difference btwn these titles.
Great Britain and United Kingdom are used interchangeably in most cases. England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are typically used individually.
The fact FIFA gives certain national status to some "states" is intriguing to me. The UK has four distinct "states" under FIFA rules, but in every other sense (politically, governing, etc), those "states" are all governed under the UK.
It would be like FIFA giving Texas, California, New York, Minnesota and the other 46 "states" in the USA their own football status.
The International Olympic Committee doesn't see it the same way as FIFA though, so it will be interesting to see Great Britain field a soccer team made up of Scots, Welsh, Irishmen and Englishmen. _________________ www.chicago-fire.com
