Any idea if we are home first? I know we were drawn first but does that matter?

Suppose it as only one game but if that,s there standard now ,barring an upset id say we,d do them easy enough."

One look at the poky dressing rooms led the Eliteserien leaders to conclude they would be better off changing in their hotel in Drogheda and getting on the team coach instead of doing all of that at the dilapidated venue.

The Norwegians didn't hang around afterwards either, and their sporting director, the former Liverpool defender Stig Inge Bjornebye, succeeded in rubbing a few Dundalk officials up the wrong way at a function by suggesting he anticipated Rosenborg would score and be in control inside 20 minutes.

That prediction was wrong - it was Dundalk who assumed that position - and the Rosenborg camp have been respectful in front of the microphones since then even though their confidence is thinly concealed. They are used to efficiently swatting away sides at the Lerkendal Stadium so 1-1 was a satisfactory result for them in the away leg.

And when the Dundalk team landed in their dressing room ahead of training last night, they were greeted by a tactics board with the words 'Rosenborg 3 Dundalk 0' scribbled on it in black marker. That mischief should work its way into Kenny's team talk.

Read more: Game of our lives' - Stephen Kenny urges his players to raise bar again to take down Rosenborg

Kenny was eager to pile the pressure on tonight’s hosts by claiming defeat to his Irish champions wouldn’t bear thinking about.

But Ingebrigsten - who played with Niall Quinn at Manchester City in the 1990s - said: “There’s no catastrophe in football. There are in other places, but no.

“For us it’s important to get into the group stages and we know where we are in European football.

“Everybody dreams to play in the Champions League but we know it’s really difficult for a Norwegian team to get through to the group stage.”

While McMillan ultimately penned a new deal with Dundalk, Kenny feared losing the 28-year-old who was joint-top scorer in all of Champions League qualifying last season.

Kenny revealed: “It went on quite a while at the time. I know he played it down a bit last week but he was one of two or three they were looking at.

“I think finances had been discussed and all of that and obviously it wasn't anything we were going to compete with if the deal happened, but it didn't.

“To be truthful, I’d say if the offer had been what he anticipated he would have taken it but you would have to ask him that.”

The Green Brigade fired back in their row with Celtic but they won’t find much support from the majority of Hoops fans.

Parkhead chiefs are closing down the ultra fans’ section for two games after their paramilitary banner display against Linfield resulted in another UEFA charge.

Read more: The Green Brigade aren’t Celtic supporters and they are a total embarrassment says Hotline punters

“It is a different kind of game these days,” says Celtic fullback Mikael Lustig, who spent four seasons in Trondheim prior to arriving at Parkhead in 2012. “There’s a lot more money involved. “But back then they were a little bit like Celtic in 1967, they were 11 local players in the starting line-up. Now it’s maybe a maximum of three or four and there rest are foreigners, and it’s getting harder to compete. “They had a really good team, though, and it made it hard to be a Rosenborg player who followed them, because people always talked about the history and thought it was better before. “Of course, you want to play with a club with a strong history, who have a good fan base and play in the Champions League. But it is hard to live up to it.”

Bendtner suffers from inconsistency but is capable of genius — and Rodgers admits Celtic need to keep an eye on him.

He said: “Nicklas was obviously a big talent when he was at Arsenal as a boy, but it’s always difficult to break through as a youngster at big clubs. He’s one of these players that you’d say on his day has qualities.

“The big question is do they have enough days? Hopefully against us he won’t.

“Self-belief is one thing you need in football. He’s a player who on his day can cause you a problem.

“But it’s the team we’ll be looking at. They’ll be super organised, hard to break down, hard to beat.”

Rosenborg coach Kare Ingebrigtsen admits Celtic is a tough draw for his side — but insists the Hoops are not invincible.

He said: “Celtic are a good team, but not the best in the world. In the last few years they have had problems getting into the Champions League.

“But they have a lot of good players and we couldn’t have got a tougher draw.

“On the other side, it is good to be underdog. That does not happen so often.

“It is also an advantage to meet Celtic now, because they have not started their season yet. In Glasgow we have to take our chances.”

It’s all very different from when the teams met for the first time in 1972 in a European Cup first round tie – which Celtic had won five years earlier and were losing finalists two years previously.

Rosenborg were a strictly amateur, part-time team, who were written off as complete no-hopers, yet gained a highly credible 2-1 defeat at Hampden in the first leg because work was ongoing with the new Parkhead Main Stand.

And manager Jock Stein was left furious at what he encountered when Celtic travelled for the second leg in Trondheim – their first ever visit to Norway.

Because of torrential rain, Rosenborg’s Lerkendal Stadium was unsuitable for training and so Celtic were forced to train on a public park, at night, in the dark.

And Stein was not an early advocate of today’s belief that there are no easy games in football either.

He said at the time: “It’s like Celtic taking Rosenborg to Glasgow Green. We’re not happy about it.

“We should beat the Norwegians, they are amateurs. Put it this way, if we don’t, we should just drop out of the competition and leave it to the professionals.

“The pitch should dry out, the floodlights are good. We are winning.”

In the event, Celtic got the fright of their lives after Rosenborg – who had Olympic ski jumper and occasional footballer Bjorn Wirkola in their team – took the lead on away goals by half time.

But a half time rollocking from Stein saw Celtic cruise to a second half comeback and they won 3-1 thanks to goals from Lou Macari, Harry Hood and Kenny Dalglish.

Captain Scott Brown remains hopeful that Leigh Griffiths will be fit to face Rosenborg but thinks Celtic have plenty others who can score goals.

(...)

Brown has shrugged off a knock he took near the end of the match against Rosenborg in Glasgow.

"I'm fine," he said. "It's old age. That's what it is. Just a wee slight tackle.

"The guy left his studs in and I've managed to kick the bottom of his foot, but everything's okay."

Brown does not accept that home advantage now makes Rosenborg favourites to reach the play-off stage.

"The game plan was spot on from them," he admitted. "They defended well and they managed to stop us from scoring goals.

"But we had a lot of possession and now we just need to move the ball a lot quicker and create more chances and, once we create those chances, we have to take them as well.

"It's 0-0, so if we score a goal, they need to score two.

"It's still 50-50. It depends on who wants it more on the day."

Read more: Celtic's Leigh Griffiths could be fit to face Rosenborg, says captain Scott Brown

Rosenborg claimed an admirable 0-0 draw in Glasgow in the first leg.

But their task has been made harder by the absence of experienced Norwegian international defender Reginiussen, who has failed to recover from a thigh injury picked up in the first leg.

Rosenborg physio Christian Thorbjornsen said: “He won’t be out for too long, but the game on Wednesday has come too fast for Tore.”

Read more: Celtic handed Champions League boost as Rosenborg defender Tore Reginiussen is ruled out of second leg clash

Dalglish:

As anyone who witnessed the first leg at Parkhead last midweek could see, Rosenborg are well-organised, well-drilled and fit.

They counter-attacked with some menace and carved out two very good chances.

Indeed, one of the opportunities they passed up could be classed as a sitter, and they probably left Glasgow feeling disappointed not have gone back to their homeland with a 1-0 victory.

By the high standards Celtic have set themselves in the past 12 months, the players never hit the heights expected.

They had plenty of possession, but never created any clear-cut chances to score.

Still, a 0-0 is the best kind of draw you could want when you play at home in European competition.

Read more: Kenny Dalglish: Celtic will have to rely on set-pieces to progress in Europe

Brattbakk:

"I still think Celtic are stronger but Rosenborg have always been strong at home.

"This is a good opportunity for Rosenborg. They don't have to attack in the first minute or the 30th minute, they can wait until a good chance comes in the second half.

"The goalless draw has made it a more exciting game than I was hoping for.

"Both teams know that it's a matter of not conceding a goal, so I think we will see two cautious teams at the beginning of the match. But I don't think either of the teams will aim for extra-time because that will be even harder. There will be chances in the 90 minutes."

Read more: Rosenborg-Celtic tie 'more open', says Harald Brattbakk

RBKweb is a popular source these days:

- Our plan against Celtic in the first leg worked perfectly and we're ready to beat them at home says Rosenborg goalkeeper (Hansen + Midtsjø)

- Celtic are vulnerable away from home and Rosenborg can end their Champions League dreams says Tore Reginiussen (Reginiussen)

Ingebrigtsen:

“After the experience in Glasgow, we know it’s terribly tough to beat Celtic, but we also know it is possible. It’s about doing things within reason.

“We believe over 90 minutes — or 120 — we’ll be stronger than them.

“We were not afraid of what we experienced over there. We met a very, very good Celtic team, but if we are at our best, we are able to beat them.”

After heavy defeats last week, Rosenborg and Vardar will be eager to get some points on the board as they meet in UEFA Europa League Group L.

The sides are meeting for the first time; it is the first UEFA men's club competition game between Norwegian and Macedonian sides.

In 14 games between Norwegian and Macedonian sides in UEFA's other competitions – international, youth, women's and futsal, club and national team – the Macedonian sides have yet to record a win.

(...)

Rosenborg's Rune Jarstein turns 33 the day after the game.

• With defeats in each of their first five group fixtures, Vardar are in danger of becoming only the fifth club to complete a UEFA Europa League group stage without registering a point. Their first two home matches in the section both ended in heavy defeats – 0-5 against Zenit and 0-6 against Real Sociedad.

• Rosenborg have lost their last four away group games and have no wins in the last seven (D1 L6).

• Domestic champions for a third season running in 2016/17, Vardar are the first club from FYR Macedonia to appear in the group stage of a major UEFA competition.

• Rosenborg, who reached this stage after winning both legs against last season's runners-up Ajax in the play-offs, have now appeared in five UEFA Cup and UEFA Europa League group stage campaigns but are yet to make further progress – although they have figured in the round of 32 on three occasions via their UEFA Champions League group.
